Another potential Texas treasure hunt in the making.
On the heels of the remarkable discovery that a marble bust purchased at an Austin, Texas Goodwill for $34.99 was really a priceless Roman relic, treasure hunters are scouring thrift stores, estate sales and grandma’s attic hoping to find the next unknown and unlikely treasure that could make them rich.
Heads up fortune seekers. If you uncover a Southern Pacific Railroad of Texas Stock Certificate buried in a stash of long forgotten papers, it could be the hidden treasure you are seeking. Although the railroad was based in Texas the certificates were sold in many states including Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, New York and even in Paris, France.
Insider tip: particular details and markings must be on the certificates to have their value retained.
See the images below to notice the details that make the certificates potentially authentic and valuable.
- Certificate issued between April 15, 1859 and May 5, 1868
- Reduced in red ink on the front of the certificate
- Interest suspended handwritten on the back of the certificate
- Incorporated by the legislator of the State of Texas under the company seal
