Zilker Park is the crown jewel of the Austin Park System. This 351-acre urban oasis provides a wide variety of recreational options, areas for gathering, and many special events.

This Mother’s Day, treat Mom to a day in the park enjoying what she loves with options from swimming in Barton Springs pool, a natural spring-fed 3-acre pool that stays at a constant temperature of 68 to 70 degrees; visiting Zilker Botanical Gardens; strolling through the enchanting Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum; canoeing or kayaking on Lady Bird Lake; to taking a relaxing walk on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail.

A Mother’s Day Picnic with the Bard

What better way to end your day and honor Mom than to pack a picnic and head to the Zilker Hillside Theater, an outdoor amphitheater just a two-minute walk from Barton Springs pool, to see a family favorite – Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream?

Austin Shakespeare has been presenting Shakespeare in the Park annually since 1984. And for many families it’s become a Mother’s Day tradition to spend that Sunday with the Bard.

Performances are pay what you wish and are presented at 8 pm on Thursday to Sunday evenings from May 5 through the 29.

Arrive early to secure the best vantage point. The Zilker playscape is nearby and there’s plenty of room for children to play prior to the performance.

This Mother’s Day, why not treat Mom and yourself to one of Shakespeare’s most beloved romantic comedies. It’s a mad romp through a magical forest with star crossed lovers and fairies, all set to pop music bringing it into the present.
